What eventually became known as the Newport Sandal was invented in 1999 by Martin Keen in Jamestown in America. Since then, Keen has not stopped developing unique sandals with the aim of creating as much comfort as possible for the foot in combination with protection for rougher surfaces. However, the sandals, with their special construction of nodes around the foot that ensure an individual fit, are also perfect for the city and even very stylish with a dress or jeans!
Since Keen started out making shoes for outdoor and water activities, they are now experts in comfort. For example, Keen uses PU mid-soles that provide cushioning and the footbeds are anatomically shaped. As Keen puts it, "We're not foot doctors, but we're self-confessed foot nerds. After all, our feet are our foundation. They help us walk through the woods, climb rocks, and stand upright with our hands free for giving high fives and clinking glasses."
Finally, a brand that creates for the real outdoorsman can only commit to sustainable initiatives. For example, from their long-term program called Hybrid Care, Keen works with organizations whose vision they share, such as Leave No Trace and The Conservation Alliance. Keen, for example, has provided protective footwear to those in need through their non-profit partnerships.
